I would say a negative attitude at home can cause a child to do poorly in school; however, many students are able to overcome this obstacle. Let's not get into what I call the "Blame Game." Your father does not earn the grades, you do. He doesn't do the homework and take quizzes and tests, you do. Although there is a connection as you say, please don't let that serve as an excuse for poor performance. Poor performance is correctable through solid learning strategies. Also, my experience also tells me that you must put in quality time for your studies. Saying you studied for three hours, and then failed the test for example, would tell me that those three hours were not quality hours; either you focused on the wrong material or did not understand the material. One technique that really helps students, especially in math, is flash cards. Get plenty of 3x5 index cards, and you can learn math facts, vocabulary, practically any concept. And your dad's attitude doesn't have a thing to do with flash cards.

Where I live there are people who are desperately struggling. There are also people who have money but choose to get the most out of everything the own. Unless the child were continuously struggling because of what he's wearing-- holey shoes in the snow or something-- I wouldn't say anything. People have a right to live the way they want to live, and worn clothing isn't anything that needs intervention. Even in the case of the child with the holey shoes, I wouldn't say anything to the parents. I'd ask the teacher if she thought there was a need and I'd leave a pair of boots anonymously with the teacher. Everyone has a right to their pride.

Even if I knew for certain that a family is poor, I wouldn't say anything to the parents. I grew up in a family with limited financial means. Just because somebody doesn't have a lot of money doesn't mean that they don't have any pride. It hurt my feelings and made me feel bad when somebody made comments about the state of my clothes, even if the person was just being compassionate. I only got one pair of shoes per year and usually, after only 6 months, there was a hole in the front of my shoe where my big toe was. Also, I remember having to wear a turtleneck in the summer because I didn't have summer clothes. My teacher made a remark about it. I will never forget how that made me feel! If you want to help out, you can do so anonymously or in a way that doesn't put the family's financial situation on the spot. One year, I gave my child's entire fall/winter wardrobe that she had outgrown to the school (I called the principal first). The principal knew which families needed the clothes.

Yes, especially if that parent was also a poor student in school and has a resentment against the child for having greater academic potential.

through fact the British type of socialism has allowed mothers and fathers to choose out of their household projects, there are a techniques too many childrens being reported with no Father parent. additionally the babies themselves constantly have excuses made for their movements, till childrens know that they would be held to blame, they're going to save on behaving like savage brutes. i'm afraid till we return to the assumption of "enable the punishment in advantageous condition the crime" we can proceed to work out our streets infested with the scum ingredient. And for some reason, maximum stabbings seem to contain black lads, for my area i don't think of that has something to do with a race ingredient, greater a social/cultural distinction.

It's a difficult one. Whilst your daughter is still a young child, she is at the stage where she should learning to take responsibility for certain things. The school are probably trying to teach her that it should be her job to put her homework in her bag and not mummy's. That said, the punishment does seem a little harsh for a relatively minor offence. Also, I don't think it should be as black and white as an "x strikes and you're out" policy, as there are a number of reasons why children may fail to bring their homework in. Plus, the good students who do bring their homework in on time may come to fear the inevitable occasion where they do forget it.That's one of the main reasons why blanket policies such as this can be a bad idea in schools-they punish the good kids when they make the odd mistake, and that's never good for morale.
