I'm not going to do your homework for you, but all I have to say about the subject is Jonbenet Ramsey.

My question is has anyone actually been to one???? I don't think so after reading this comments. And, the child abuse part? Really? Pageants and child abuse are on separate spectrums. I would know since I am a victim of that and have done pageants. I was never a brat, I learned values from my dad about what is important, and it was fun! I was dressed modestly since I was a chaplain's daughter and STILL won. So unless anyone has actually been to a pageant and not seeing what they want on TV, then I think their opinions should be null and void. It depends on the child if it is good for them or not and how the parent raises them. No one should gather every kid up that participates and point negative fingers. The worst people are the parents to be honest. I've seen moms cat fight over it. I took my little girl today to a pageant and she is 9 weeks old. I got alot of dirty looks and scrutiny. Did I do that right back at them? No. Because I'm a mom and know my maturity means more than "living through my child" like it most often happens. End of rant....you get my point. One more time though....shame on the person who is obviously extremely uneducated and never experienced, even second handily, child abuse! Why don't you concentrate on the REAL victims instead of making up a petty reason why not to like beauty pageants!

You need to think this up yourself since it is your homework assignment little one! My personal opinion is that it is just gross. Why would you want to sexify a little girl? I find it perverted and can't imagine how any parent would think it a worthwhile activity for a young girl.

Beauty pageants can teach children discipline they get to socialize with other girls their age. Plus these girls are more likely to have better self esteem and weight issues than other girls.

Sexed-up little girls sashaying down a cat-walk or stage in full makeup with teased hair and glitzy dresses isn't amusing or cute. In fact, it borders on child abuse. It doesn't matter whether or not we are "stage moms." Sexed-up little girls sashaying down a cat-walk or stage in full makeup with teased hair and glitzy dresses isn't amusing or cute. I agree with you. A lot of the parents are living their dream through their kid. Did you happen to notice that a lot of the pageant moms are fat? I also noticed that it seams like most of the kids are being worked too hard when they just want to run around and be kids. I think its only ok if the kid actually wants to do it and the parent isn't just saying they love it.
